School Health Service

The Bi-Borough School Health Service supports the physical and mental wellbeing of children and young people aged 4 to 19 (in Reception Year to Year 13) who live in Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea.

The service provides care to children and young people with a Westminster or Kensington and Chelsea school place. Every school in Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea has a named School Nurse who helps children and young people stay healthy and safe while at school.

Your School Nurse is a qualified nurse who has received special training. Your School Nurse supports you at school so you can stay healthy and happy. Your School Nurse can give you confidential advice on anything to do with your physical and mental health, and you can speak to them about any worries or concerns. Your School Nurse might carry out some tests for you too. For example, if you are in Reception class, they might do a test to check your hearing. If you are in year 6, they might check your height and weight.

A School Nurse can help children and young people to develop the skills they need to manage challenges in school, at home and in personal life. A School Nurse can help children and their parents or guardians by facilitating access to other services, either by making a referral or providing information to help you make a decision.

Parents can contact the School Health Service directly to request special education support and a referral to the Bi-Borough Inclusion Service.

Yes, some routine vaccinations for children and young people are offered free of charge at school by the School Health Service. This includes the seasonal flu vaccine for some primary school children and the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine for 12-13 year old girls in Year 8.

You can contact the Bi-borough School Health Service directly if you have a question or if you want to find out more about booking an appointment with a School Nurse.
